Defining First Use Honestly
Why “opened the feature once” is rarely the adoption milestone teams think it is.
First use should mean the user completed the action the feature exists for—not that they brushed past an entry point. Teams that count page views as adoption inflate success and miss the people who never finish.
Write the milestone as a verb with a result: submitted a filter, saved a template, invited a collaborator. Then bind it to events you can trust for at least a quarter.
If the milestone is fuzzy, the baseline will be too. Spend the extra afternoon naming it before you chart anything.
